Pick a closer relation to “graphic design” - technology or art. So, what’s your pick? Ask me and I will pick them both and justify it with this statement – “Art is the soul and technology is the body of graphic design.” May sound a cliché but is, nevertheless, true. Metals, computer or web imagery, print media, or photography – no matter what form or medium of technology a graphic designer uses, the real art or design is one’s own internal affair that deals with the individual sense of creativity.

The world of designs is huge, and we find design artists involved in a variety of occupations. However, from simple card designers to those working in big website design and marketing companies on their huge, challenging marketing campaigns with logos and business web design graphics, everyone is trying to do only one thing, that is conveying a message to the public. The more a graphic artist adapts to creative communication through visual designs, the more he prospers regardless of his occupation.

They say good graphic designers are made in heaven. But if they are, we all would be. Those who are the best have learnt how to be the best, and if you follow and practice what they believe, you may be one of them. Here is the real essence of graphic designing:

• We all were artists as a child, but we all don’t stay an artist when we grow up. Don’t let that child in you die or you will lose your creativity.
   
• If you learn how to make clever simple and simple clever, you have learnt the art of grabbing attention from visual forms of expressions. Always have a concept for design or it may remain uninterpreted.
   
• An artist’s job is to deepen the mystery. Do give your viewers a food for thought, but then make sure they get the message and just can’t keep thinking on and on. You must aim your design to seduce, shape, and more importantly, evoke an emotional response.
   
• Love and enjoy your job and you will never have to work another day. Be passionate but don’t get obsessed with perfection. Is there anything like complete creativity? No!
   
• If things are always to be done the way they have been, ‘creativity’ would not exist only. Logic is the beginning of creativity, and how intelligent your logics are would determine the extent of your creativity.
   
• If you are a serious graphic designer, you should always feel like an idiot if you see someone with a good or better graphic design idea. Get to the other side of the river and make others feel so!
   
• It is rightly said that “the good thing about bad taste is that you don’t know you have it.” But, remember designing is a critical subject. The more you know you are bad, the more it will help you to improve.
