How to Design SEO Friendly Website
Posted By - Mark Spenser

With the current economic slowdown, no wonder that you don’t wish to have low ranks on the search engines. A higher rank on search engines is one of the hopes for getting more online business. So then, why not to have a website designed in a way that is SEO friendly? The introduction of web 2.0 technology has made a deep impact on the way web designers and developers make websites. There are basically two ways of designing website, either with the usage of tables or with the use of DIV based CSS format.

Each method and activity has its own advantages and disadvantages, let’s just first look into the pros and cons of both the methods. Thereafter, we will discuss in the article which method is better for SEO.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Table:

  • Table format is simple to use and also easy to implement in comparison of the CSS (div). There are several tools such as Dreamweaver and Microsoft FrontPage that enable the user to create tables with comparatively less labor. This method also overcomes the compatibility concerns of cross browser as it supports all browsers including the old ones.
  • On the other hand, the disadvantages of this method are that tables are not as flexible as the CSS (div) layouts. The tables have lengthy codes and therefore, it does create problems for the developers to find bugs in it. The web pages made with tables are more time consuming while submitting the content.

Advantages and Disadvantages of DIV:

  • The website designed with this method has several benefits such as it downloads faster as they are light weighted and renders quickly on the web browsers. The websites made using
tags possess small file size and it is also a good process to compress the webpage whenever there is high web traffic. Hence, it saves the bandwidth. Since, there is only one CSS file it is easy to make any changes on all the web pages and saves a lot of time.
  • On the other side, the disadvantage is that the designers must have good understanding of CSS coding skills. Proper validation of the CSS properties is necessary as they might be interpreted differently on different web browsers. Therefore, it becomes necessary to follow W3C standards while doing CSS coding. This is more time consuming for a developer as they need to be very careful while coding.

Which Method is SEO friendly?

The CSS (div) method is SEO friendly because of several reasons such as:

1. First of all the optimizers can use the Meta information as Google uses complex algorithms.

2. Secondly, it is easy for the search engine crawlers to crawl through the CSS coding as it is compact and clear. Thus, it makes the work of the search engines easier.

3. Since the crawlers can read the content and the coding easily and quickly, the chances of fetching more traffic towards your website increases.

4. You can also make structure flexible as per your needs in backend

5. Another major benefit of CSS to SEO is that the downloading time of the web page is decreased. The page size of the web page decreases as the CSS coding is quite compact.

Here, are some of the points to consider while designing an SEO friendly website. Hope this helps.
