3.75% of Tweets are a Spam: Good News or Bad News

A study conducted by Pear Analytics showed that 3.75% of all the tweets on Twitter were spam messages. Though this number did not seem a huge threat but it definitely dumb founded several researchers as they were assuming that many of tweets would be spam or self promoting. However, one thing that the researchers must bear in their minds is that twitter is a relatively new website and not all the world population uses it. Therefore, new ways and means of spamming on it are still to be discovered.

Nevertheless, the bad impact of this on the Twitter is that the more people will start using it the more there will be chances of it getting spammed. The tricky part is also the fact that a slight more rise in the number of Spam in Twitter can affect its image and reputation and lead to less popularity of Twitter.

The Pear Analytics study report also mentioned that 40% of Tweets were pointless babbles and 8.75 % of tweets have news content that can be passed along, 37% are conversational tweets, and 6% are self-promotion messages.
