AOL Buys Patch and Going Local Services
Jun 12, 2009
AOL has just acquired two companies which specialize in providing localized services. First of this acquisition is Patch Media Corp., a local news and information services provider for local towns and communities. The other company which AOL just bought is Going , Inc., a local platform for discovering and sharing information in leading U.S. cities.
Interestingly, these two companies are offering local experiences, content and self-service applications to both the consumers and advertisers.
Explaining AOL’s decision to acquire these two companies, Tim Armstrong, AOL’s Chairman and CEO says:
“Local remains one of the most disaggregated experiences on the Web today — there’s a lot of information out there but simply no way for consumers to find it quickly and easily…”
Armstrong believes that the local space is a great prime spot for launching innovation. As such AOL is moving towards strengthening its local network with the help of these two companies.
The acquisition of the two companies will add up to AOL’s network of local services which boasts of 54 million total unique visitors monthly.
