Google Commerce Search 2.0 – Online Retailers and Shopper’s Delight!

June 18, 2010 - Online retailers in the United States and United Kingdom have a reason to smile as the new version of Google Commerce Search, i.e. Google Commerce Search 2.0, is launched to help them get ready for the summer shopping season. It is expected to give retailers more control over what’s happening on their sites, with immediate ROI, and shoppers at the other end are going to get an enhanced search experience.

First launched about six months ago, Google Commerce Search was designed specifically for online retailers to offer enterprise-grade website search solution hosted in Google’s cloud. The 2.0 version is its second release with some significant improvements:

  • Greater merchant customization: A full merchandising dashboard giving merchants more control over promotions, ranking rules, and filtering. No custom code necessary - marketers and product merchandisers can now do all this themselves. New intuitive retailer controls like time based promotions, navigation bar with filters, and simple product ranking rules, which means fast seasonal optimizations.

  • Enhanced shopper experience: With query autocompletion, possible for retailers to offer common queries to shoppers in real time, without any custom coding. Faster and more relevant GCS, thanks for search quality improvements. Because it’s hosted in the Google cloud, shoppers receive search results in less than a second. Spelling and stemming dictionaries and new custom synonym options added to make shopping on a retail site as easy and accurate as searching on Google.com.

  • Browsing and navigation improved: Now, Google Commerce Search allows visitors to shop by browsing around your site as well as searching directly for products.
