About Poll Portal
Poll Portal is an enterprise-level polling portal that was founded on the idea of sharing advertising revenue with the masses. It is a social polling application that helps create custom opinion polls quickly, and enables users to spread these polls around the internet via Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and other third party websites. The core objective of the company is to offer users a high-end polling experience that helps them monetize their internet presence.
Opportunity
The client had a unique concept that they wanted PLAVEB to give shape to, converting the blueprint into a well-defined, extremely efficient polling application. PLAVEB was put in charge of designing and developing a sophisticated polling application. It would enable users to create an unlimited number of custom opinion polls, and share them through third party websites. The polls would be created by both registered users with a paid subscription, as well as unregistered users. To ensure that the website would generate revenue through polls created by users, Google AdSense code would be integrated into every poll. While both registered and unregistered users could create an unlimited number of polls, paid users would have the advantage of earning credits based on the number of hits generated by the poll. These credits would be redeemed for cash, or through entry into a monthly 'lucky draw.'
PLAVEB was given a free reign in terms of bringing the project to fruition, and integrating the various specifications into the web application.
Challenges
- Logo as a Visual Representation of the Concept – Designing a logo that captures the essence of the concept in a very simple and straightforward way.
- A Unique Concept – Building a site based on an untried concept, with a limited frame of reference.
- Avoiding Google API Conflict – Ensuring that the Google AdSense API integrated into the poll did not clash with the existing Google AdSense API on the third party website.
- Instant Voting Results – Enabling voting results to be displayed instantly, as web users would not want to wait long for voting results.
- Poll Design – Creating a poll design that would stand out from the overall design of the site, to create an impact in the minds of site users.
- Custom Poll Themes – Ensuring that the range of various themes available for users to select from would not interfere with the professional look and feel of the website structure.
- Credits Management System – Designing a custom credit management system that gives the admin complete control over providing default credits to new users, setting credit values, and utilizing credits in the monthly draw.
Execution
The perfect representation of the client’s concept was conceived by conducting thorough research and analysis of particular needs and requirements. We focused on creating a homepage that perfectly encapsulated the concept, while offering clear information to users about creating a poll, sharing it, and the features available. We approached this project with one eye on the client's specifications, and the other on the usability of the application. Our end-user oriented approach, attention to detail, and seamless execution, made the client more than satisfied.
Results
The client’s vision was entirely brought to life by this project. This is illustrated by the fact that the application has been widely appreciated by the client and users alike, for achieving all that it set out to do. The creation of a custom poll is quick, sharing it with third party websites is convenient, and revenue generation is easy.
Technical Details
The application was developed using LAMP Technology (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP). We also utilized JQuery, Google AdSense API, HTML, CSS and Ajax, to ensure that the project met with all of the client's specifications.
