About TRIMMING LAND CO.INC.
The Trimming Land Company is a tree maintenance company with over 25 years of experience. With a vision into the 21st century, TLC understands that nothing stays the same and therefore continually assess their position in the industry to insure that they are on the cutting edge of technology, environmentalism, and preservation.
Opportunity
In their quest to increase efficiency, effectiveness, and capacity, the Trimming Land Company approached PLAVEB to build a tree inventory, invoicing, and work order creation system. PLAVEB recognized that while such a system would certainly help TLC execute its job more economically, the true value seemed to exist in the data the company planned to compile.
PLAVEB approached the TLC project as both a web development and business development consultant. Our experience analyzing business strategy, recognizing opportunity, and developing presentations for the cultivation of angel investment.
Challenges
The Trimming Land Tree Inventory and Work Order System must provide municipalities:
»The opportunity to inventory botanical assets
»A green and effective means to maintain botanical maintenance records
»A simple web-based interface to create work orders and follow work progress
»A means to determine risk associated with botanical infringement
»An accurate and indicative image of a municipalities 02 contribution
Input and integrate GPS botanical location data via an upload from a handheld device.
Execution
PLAVEB produced an exceptionally robust and user-friendly administrative and client facing enterprise solution. TLC clients (typically municipalities) now have the ability to create work orders, view invoices, maintain electronic botanical maintenance records, and follow work progress.
TLC administrators now have the ability to view, execute, and convert work orders into invoices. Additionally TLC, with the use of GPS technology, has the ability to build remarkably accurate and functional botanical asset databases.
Results
By way of PLAVEB research and consulting services, the subsequent effective use of the botanical asset databases, and leveraging additional publicly available web-based data sources TLC has been able to dramatically increase the scope of work they can provide to their clients. TLC now provides municipal carbon footprint assessment, risk evaluation associated with botanical infringement, and green urban planning consulting.
Technical Details
PLAVEB used Microsoft technologies to create this custom web based system. The application is coded in ASP.net and runs on a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database and hosted on Windows Server 2003 with IIS 6. PLAVEB has implemented a built-in Error Notification System that sends the error messages to the developer without informing end-users.
